Pre-Game Dice Rolls

Pre-Game Dice Rolls

Before starting my game sessions with my players, we have a tradition of doing what we call "pre-game dice rolls." These rolls give my players a chance to gain bonuses that they can use in our gaming sessions to enhance their characters for a period of time. These bonuses range from gaining bonuses to their skills, stats, or attributes. It's a fun way to keep the players engaged in our gaming sessions.

The process of doing pre-game rolls requires the rolling of D100 dice. Each player in turn rolls 1D100 and the gamemaster (that's Me!) also rolls 1D100. The purpose of the rolls is for the player to try to roll as close as possible to what the gamemaster rolls.

If the player rolls within 10 of what the gamemaster rolled, that roll is considered a "good roll" and the player gains 1 good roll that they can use in the gaming session. At anytime during the gaming session, the player can "cash in" the good roll for a 50% bonus to one skill for one day or a bonus of 5 extra damage with a weapon strike for one day. These two options for a good roll are not the only ones available. The player may ask the gamemaster to have a different bonus that would be on the same level as the other options already presented.

If the player rolls within 5 of what the gamemaster rolled, that roll is considered a "great roll" and the player gains 1 great roll that they can use in the gaming session. At anytime during the gaming session, the player can "cash in" the great roll for a +5 bonus to one stat for one day. A stat would be something like Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Dexterity, Luck, etc. A great roll would also give the player the option to have a bonus of +5 Impenetrable Armor Points to their current armor. The player may ask the gamemaster to have a different bonus that would be on the same level as the other options already presented.

If the player rolls exactly what the gamemaster rolled, that roll is considered a "perfect roll" and the player gains 1 perfect roll that they can use in the gaming session. At anytime during the gaming session, the player can "cash in" the perfect roll for an extra life or something similar. The player may ask the gamemaster to have a different bonus that would be on the same level as the other option already presented.
